Access Blocked Sites With Private Tunnel

To access blocked sites, you can check out these 100 free anti-censorship tools as mentioned before.

The following will show you another one — Private Tunnel (referral link), which is an OpenVPN service powered by OpenVPN.

Private Tunnel

I. The advantages of Private Tunnel

Comparing to other VPN services, Private Tunnel has the following 3 obvious advantages:

1. You can choose different servers

You can choose to connect any one of the following 3 servers:

  • San Jose, CA (US),
  • London (UK),
  • Zurich (CH).

2. You can add blocked sites

After login, you can add your own sites by entering their URLs, so that you can visit them from the Private Tunnel website directly.

3. You can use it on Windows and Mac

Private Tunnel supports Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OSX.

II. The shortcomings of Private Tunnel

There are also 2 shortcomings of Private Tunnel:

1. You can only have 100 MB free traffic

Although you can get 10 GB more for every purchase your friend makes according your referral link, you can only have 100 MB free traffic after registration.

2. The US server is blocked

During my test, the US server can't be connected until you use another VPN, but which you can disconnect after the Private Tunnel is running.

III. How to use Private Tunnel?

To use the free OpenVPN service of Private Tunnel, you can check out the following 3 steps:

1. Create an account

Sign up Private Tunnel

First of all, you need to enter your email address and any password to create a Private Tunnel account.

2. Download OpenVPN Connect

Download OpenVPN Connect

After signup, you will receive an activation e-mail with a link, clicking on which, you can log in Private Tunnel, choose a server, and click the "connect" button, then you can download and install the OpenVPN Connect software.

After installation, you can start to use Private Tunnel to access blocked sites.

3. Switch to another server

Change another Private Tunnel Server

To switch the VPN service from one server to another, you just need to select the server you like and click the "Connect" button on the Private Tunnel website.

Bonus:

Instead to refer friends to buy the VPN services, you can also sign up multiple Private Tunnel accounts to get more traffic.

I have used it for 3 months and it works perfect. There have been some performance improvements and its fast! Never a hitch and I really like its useage based— no subscription like the others. And NO ADS IN YOUR FACE.
