Default Gmail Appearance

As what you can see from the above image, there will be ads, whether on the top, right or bottom of an email, and if you do not like those ads, you can hide them, such as what you can see from the following image:

But how to make it? You can check out Gmelius, which is a free extension for Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

After installation, you can see an Option page, which you can always open by clicking on the extension icon in the Toolbar. On the Option page, you can change and clean your Gmail with the following 4 ways:

1. You can hide some elements

Besides ads, you can also hide Chat, People Widget, Footer and some other elements you do not like and regain some white space to clean your inbox.

2. You can change the top navigation bar

If you do not like the default Google black top navigation bar, you can change it, such as to add Voice, to remove Play, to replace News with Reader, and so on.

3. You can customize the Inbox

Such as to enable subtle row highlight with customized color, to add text to navigation icons (such as "Archive", "Spam" & "Delete"), to move labels of your messages from the left to the right, so on and so forth.

4. You can add attachment icons

As default, all the attachments are indicated by paperclips, which you can change to different icons for different file types (such as document, excel, form, etc.) via Gmelius.

For the effects, you can compare the 2 images in this post for a preview.
